Here at NTG we are committed to full waste segregation with absolute minimum waste from site going to landfill. Waste options are constantly reviewed on site and ongoing investigations are underway to review alternative uses for paper sludge which offer a more environmentally friendly method of disposal than land spreading.
Some of the options being considered are:
- The production of egg cartons
- Hospital sundries
- Cat litter
- Fuel for bio mass boilers
Developments are being considered at NTG regarding treatment of our effluent water with a view to significantly improving the quality of the water discharged from the mill. This includes upgrade works on our clarification units to reduce suspended solids and research and trials of technology to significantly reduce chemical oxygen demand in effluent water. This research is with the aim of allowing the mill to recycle a much higher proportion of water then is currently possible, reducing abstraction and discharge volumes as well as reducing our impact on the environment.
Energy reduction is also of high importance here at NTG and is under constant review. This ranges from small projects such as lights off policies through to larger long term projects such as replacement of current motors and pumps with those of greater energy efficiency.
